Understanding the Stage 2 Rewards Allocation

The Grass Participants Stage Two Rewards Distribution rewards users who participated in the Grass Network by sharing their bandwidth during Epochs 1 to 19 of Stage 2 (i.e., the period between October 14, 2024 to June 8, 2026)

Rewards are calculated based on each participant’s participation in the Grass Network via their contribution of their unused bandwidth. Each participant’s eligibility to receive rewards is subject to the Grass Rewards Program Terms and Conditions.

In the interest of navigating ongoing regulatory uncertainty and to ensure that users based in all eligible jurisdictions may claim rewards in a timely manner, participant rewards for Stage 2 will be made available in USDC.

There will be no new emissions of Grass Tokens or changes to the circulating supply from this distribution.

Whether a user holds Grass Tokens (or has held them in the past) has no impact on the distribution.

The claim period for the distribution will commence on July 22 and run for six months (or until all claims are made, whichever is earlier).

Users are rewarded based on their participation in the Grass Network, as determined by:

(i) their uptime on the application;
(ii) the quality of the bandwidth they contribute;
(iii) their location;
(iv) the amount of their bandwidth actually used by the Grass Network; and
(v) any bonuses and referral rewards earned.

For participants to be eligible they need to have been awarded more than 0 Network Points during the eligibility period to receive a Stage 2 rewards distribution.

The most heavily weighted factor is the actual use of their bandwidth, which is determined programmatically (i.e., in response to technological network needs and market forces - e.g., where demand is coming from geographically).

Total user contributions to the Grass Networks are measured in Network Points and Uptime Points.

Network and Uptime Points

Network Points are awarded based on the actual amount of bandwidth that nodes contribute to the network. A total pool of 1M Network Points were awarded to participants across the network each day. Network Points were assigned the highest conversion rate of $0.0049 USDC / Network Point.

For the Stage 2 Rewards Distribution, Network Points have had a bonus multiplier applied depending on the device type they were earned on.

Network Points earned via the Chrome Extension have been awarded at the standard award rate.
Network Points earned via the Desktop App have been awarded a bonus of 5x to the standard award rate.
Network Points earned through the Android App have been awarded a bonus of 10x to the standard award rate.

Uptime Points are awarded based on the uptime of a participant’s application, the quality of the bandwidth connection they contribute, the location of their IP address, as well as tertiary bonuses for user activity such as referrals and sign-ups. Uptime Points were assigned a lower conversion rate of  $0.00000007 USDC / Uptime Point.

For Uptime Points, the advertised multiplier bonuses of 2x for the Desktop App and 3x Android App were awarded in real-time on a daily basis throughout Stage 2.

The USDC rewards combine your Uptime Points and Network Points into a single allocation.

During Stage 2, we found that 150k users received about 90% of the network traffic. This was as a result of the network prioritizing bandwidth usage through nodes offering the highest stability, updated software, and high-demand geographies.

Steps users can take to increase their probability of being prioritized by the network include:

  • Run your node on a residential network (not a VPN).
  • Maintain a stable, reliable connection that does not frequently disconnect.
  • Keep your apps fully up to date.
  • Use a preferred device type. Androids have been the highest earning device type on the network, followed by desktop, then chrome extensions.

Receiving Your Distribution

Grass will make available a non-custodial wallet on the Grass application dashboard. This wallet is where the distributed USDC will be made available after a participant processes their claim on the Grass Dashboard.

Grass will not have custody of any of the assets in the wallet and users can export the wallet at any time, as it is managed on the backend by a third party service provider (Turnkey).

The wallet will have integrations with both MoonPay and Jupiter so users have ready access to off-ramp and swap functionality offered by these third parties.

The off-ramp and swap transactions will take place on these third party platforms pursuant to their own T&Cs and KYC checks. Users are linked out to the applicable third party platform.

Grass does not participate in off-ramping or swap transactions or earn any fees from them.

The sole purpose of the wallet is to make the user experience smoother as there are many non-crypto native users that join Grass and struggle connecting, using, and maintaining a third party wallet.

Requests for assistance regarding third-party wallets are among the most common requests Grass receives.

On-Chain Transaction Fees

Grass does offer a feature to pay on-chain fees by deducting the amount from a user's allocation. In this case Grass will be a signer to the on-chain transaction.

On-chain transaction fees when using the Grass wallet include:

  • Turnkey wallet fee
  • Solana network fee

Grass does not earn anything from these fees.

Turnkey wallet fees are $0.15 (USD) per transaction. This fee is only charged if you choose to use the Grass in-app wallet.
Users will be able to export their key to an external wallet should they choose to.

Solana network fees are dynamic based on network activity. If fees are elevated when you attempt to claim, you can wait a few days and try again when the congestion on the Solana network subsides. Grass has no control over these fees.
